II. Bethel-The World(verses 2-3)

The record in Genesis 13:3-4 is very meaningful. "And he (Abram) went on his journeys from the south [Egypt was in the south] even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai; unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord." Abram did not have any fellowship with God in Egypt. Later, he returned to his original place, Bethel, and called on the name of the Lord. Only at Bethel will a person have fellowship with God and only there will he consecrate himself to God. While Gilgal refers to the victory over the flesh Bethel refers to the victory over the world, because Egypt signifies the world. Victory over the world is a condition for being raptured and receiving the power of the Holy Spirit. Our living should be such that the world cannot touch our heart.

2.  벧엘 (2-3절)-세상에 대하여

창세기 13장 3절부터 4절은 의미심장하다 『그(아브라함)가 남방 (애굽은 남방에 있음)에서부터 발행하여 벧엘에 이르며 벧엘과 아이 사이 전에 장막 쳤던 곳에 이르니 그가 처음으로 단을 쌓은 곳이라 그가 거기서 여호와의 이름을 불렀더라』. 아브라함은 애굽에서 하나님과 교통이 없었다. 후에 원래의 곳 바로 벧엘에 돌아와서야 비로소 거기에서 다시 여호와의 이름을 불렀다 사람은 오직 벧엘에서만 하나님과 교통이 있을 수 있고 하나님께 헌신할 수 있다. 길갈은 육신을 이긴 것을 말하고 벧엘은 세상을 이긴 것을 말한다 왜냐하면 애굽은 세상의 대표이기 때문이다. 세상을 이김은 들림받음과 성령의 능력을 얻는 조건이다. 우리의 생활은 반드시 세상이 우리의 마음을 만질 수 없는 정도에까지 이르러야 한다.
