THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND THE SCRIBES
Now we come to the New Testament. The chief priests and the scribes knew the Bible. When King Herod inquired where Christ was to be born, they gave him the answer immediately (Matt. 2:4-6). Although there is nothing inherently wrong with Bible knowledge, it is dangerous merely to hold the knowledge as did the chief priests and scribes. Although they knew that Christ was to be born at Bethlehem, none of them went to see for themselves. This proves that they were on the line of knowledge, not on the line of life. The wise men from the east, who had no knowledge of the Bible, were on the line of life. Following the heavenly star, they came to the place where Christ was and worshipped Him. Undoubtedly, the wise men from a heathen land had life, while the chief priests and the scribes had death. Although the chief priests and scribes had the knowledge of the Bible, the result of their knowledge was death. Knowledge can not give life.

대제사장들과
서기관들
이제는 신약을 보자. 대제사장들과 서기관들은 성경을 알았다. 헤롯 왕이 그리스도가 어디서 나겠느냐고 물었을 때 그들은 즉시 대답했다(마 2:4-6). 성경 지식은 본질적으로 틀린 것이 아니지만 대제사장과 서기관들처럼 다만 지식을 붙잡을 때 위험하다. 그들은 그리스도께서 베들레헴에 태어나신다는 것을 알았지만 그들 중 아무도 직접 보러 가지 않았다. 이것은 그들이 지식 노선 안에 있었고 생명 노선 안에 있지 않았음을 증명한다. 성경 지식이 없는 동방의 현인들은 생명 노선 안에 있었다. 하늘의 별을 따라 그들은 그리스도께서 계신 곳에 와서 그분께 경배했다. 의심할 바 없이, 이방 땅에서 온 현인들에게는 생명이 있었고 대제사장들과 서기관들에게는 사망이 있었다. 대제사장들과 서기관들은 성경 지식을 가졌지만 그 지식의 결과는 사망이었다. 지식은 생명을 줄 수 없다.
